STRIATIONS

A creative design project.

The design

Striations was inspired by the shapes and dimensions that are found in rock formations across the Southwestern part of the United States. The allusion to the continuous movement of the rocks can be seen from every angle of the garment.

The fabric

The design is made possible using a lightweight and drainable brushed polyester. Striations is comprised of 3 continuous yards of 30" wide fabric, that loops and intertwines with itself while wrapping around the body.

The structure

In order for this freeform design to be worn on the body, a one shoulder structured bodice with a back opening, and a fitted skirt with a hidden side zipper, will allow the wearer to dress with ease while holding the design in place.

CRISS CROSS

A SCULPTURAL DESIGN PROJECT

FullSizeRender-9TWO.jpg

Sculptural draping

A reversible top & skirt set

Criss Cross is a draped two-piece ensemble is inspired by geometry and the intersection of lines. The reversible bodice is constructed of angular piecework that play off of the shapes found in the underskirt. The cutouts featured in the front of the bodice also drew from the shapes found along print at the skirt's waistline. The outer skirt features two large structured cowls that feature the repeated oval shape that is seen throughout the piece. The back of the garment is where Criss Cross gets its name. The sophisticated racerback is created using twisted and overlapping cording that mimics the angles seen in the rest of the bodice.

2018 VISUAL ART AND DESIGN SHOWCASE:

Criss Cross was a featured apparel design representing the Textile and Apparel Management department in the 2018 Undergraduate Visual Art and Design Showcase.

GEO GINGHAM

a limited-time draping design

A creative draping challenge

A whimsical design created in 4 hours

Geo Gingham is a garment that was created in a draping course for the "Plaid Project" - an assignment where the class is paired off, and each pairing of students is given a plaid or striped fabric. The groups were given ten working hours to play with their fabric and create a design that corresponded and highlighted their assigned fabric.

After spending time to play with the fabric and develop some experimental and preliminary designs, Geo Gingham was finally created in four working hours. The purple gingham fabric is featured in this design, with the print being used both on the straight grain as we'll as on the bias to create interesting visual detail. The repetition of triangles can be seen throughout the garment. The bodice of the dress features a triangular cutout to show some skin, and allow a lighter feel. The full three tiered skirt is balanced with the fitted side of the skirt. Sharp geometric lines play well with the small-scale gingham print to create a beautiful, strong, yet whimsical design,

2017 Visual art and design showcase:

Geo Gingham was featured in the Visual Art and Design Undergraduate Showcase in the spring semester of 2017. The submission was reviewed by a panel of judges who selected Geo Gingham as the recipient of an award in the category of Applied Design.

OVERBOLD

FLAT PATTERNED WOOL COAT

Overbold is a flat patterned outerwear coat, created with a wool herringbone double cloth, and lined entirely with bemberg rayon. The tailored coat features a shawl collar, detachable belt, and large front pockets. A full lining provides comfort and ease for the wearer.

In this design the grain of the wool is manipulated to create interest in the collar lapels, as well as the pockets. The interior lining of the coat is black rayon, to give the coat a classic feel.

The jacket patterns fit in a tight marker, allowing this jacket to have a relatively low fabric waste.
